Iridescent Color of the mighty Sailfish

Posted in Fish, Friends and Family, Saltwater on September 29, 2009 by thegreatwhitehunter

I have always wondered why sailfish mounts are painted with bright colors when all of the pictures of sailfish are much more drab.  When my brother-in-law caught this beauty, suddenly it made more sense.  Check out the sail on this fish.

Bryan Hale-Amazing Sail

We first saw this sailfish because it’s sail was sticking out of the water like a shark from jaws.  This showoff tail danced all the way into the boat.  Congrats on a beautiful fish Bryan.

The Goliath Grouper-fka Jewfish- makes you think you are looking at trick photography.  Growing up to 8 feet long and weighing in at up to 800 lbs, these monsters can grow to the size of small car (well almost). Check out these impressive beasts.

Photographed by Michael Patrick O’Neill in Jupiter, Florida, USA.

Alligator Gar-North America’s Freshwater Secret

Posted in Fish, Freshwater on September 27, 2009 by thegreatwhitehunter

Check out this tremendous Alligator Gar which was caught by Stephen Buss.  With the head of a gator and the body of a torpedo, these bad boys will eat anything, including water birds.  It is not unusual for these amazing creatures to reach weights of over 200 pounds.

Color Phase Utah Blackie

Posted in Bear, Big Game, North America on September 26, 2009 by thegreatwhitehunter

Brandon,  thanks for the amazing photos you took from your truck.  Utah doesn’t have a large black bear population, but it does have the distinction as producing the current Boone & Crockett Club world record for a black bear.  The world record bear, which ironically died of natural causes, had a skull measurement of 23 and 10/16 inches (1975) .  Here is a link to the record book black bear story. Amazing chocolate Brandon!

Mountain Lion Attack-Scarry Stuff

Posted in Big Game, Cougar, North America on September 26, 2009 by thegreatwhitehunter

Mountain Lion stealth and power-bad combination for prey.  Seriously gripping photo montage.  Nature at its most raw.  NOT FOR KIDS or the weak of heart.

Sober food chain ending

If anyone has additional info on these mountain lion attack photos give me a heads up.   Thanks to Wade for the forward.
